Equipment

Throughout our 100,000 square foot facility, you'll find the world's most respected names in precision equipment -- with all major items computer numerically controlled.

An example of Metcam's innovative use of technology is the integration of CAD with solid modeling with CAM for punches, lasers, and pressbrakes.  The result is a shorter lead time for the production of new parts, fewer opportunities for error and high accuracy of first part to the original 3D part model.

Metcam's arsenal of equipment includes two flexible manufacturing systems (FMS) that integrate automatic nesting, loading/unloading and sheet processing. One FMS is the Bystronic Laser Flexible Manufacturing System. This system for precision sheet metal cutting includes a 3,000 watt laser, a 4,000 watt laser, material storage tower, automatic shuttle table and automatic load/unload.

The bed of the laser can handle sheet metal up to 5' by 10' by 1/2" thick! We are equipped to cut with both nitrogen and oxygen.

Since the laser FMS is Windows compatible, it easily integrates into our shop LAN. We can exchange files, nests and schedules, as well as keep track of raw stock in the material tower.FMS2.jpg (14193 bytes)

Our other FMS is an Amada Flexible Manufacturing System. This turret punch system includes a material tower, automatic load, turret punch, right angle shear, and automatic material sorting.

Our laser FMS, our punch FMS, and our stand-alone turret are all networked to the same CAD/CAM and part nesting systems. Unless a job is restricted to a particular machine, we can schedule each job "on the fly" for the next available machine.

Laser cutting, punching and shearing is just the beginning. Metcam also operates seven multiaxis CNC pressbrakes. Six of the pressbrakes are Amada. One of the pressbrakes is a Hurco ... the first in the U.S.!  All of our pressbrakes have Hurco backgages and controllers. This allows us to network all of our pressbrakes together. By sharing the same tool library and setup files, we can quickly and easily move jobs among our pressbrakes for maximum efficiency and minimum setup time.press_brake_3.jpg (10709 bytes)

Our pressbrakes, include:
    (1) ten ft, 130 ton
    (1) ten ft, 110 ton
    (1) eight ft, 88 ton
    (2) six ft, 50 ton
    (2) four ft, 30 ton

High tech equipment does not necessarily require automated or computer controls.  An excellent example is Metcam's 3D Work and Welding Table System by Demmeler.  This precision fixturing system is based on a modular design that allows us to build very complex and accurate weld fixtures in a very short period of time.  We use our 3D CAD/CAM system to create custom fixtures for use with this system, with a resulting part accuracy to .004 inches.  Quick setup and accuracy are coupled with repeatability to give Metcam an edge in precision welding.

Other equipment at Metcam:

  • (4) Haeger presses, three of these have automatic feed for hardware insertion

  • Multiple mig, tig and spot welders

  • Machining equipment (drill, tap, counterbore, lathe, precision saw)

  • Debur equipment, including 2 line grain machines

  • A 5-stage phosphate paint pretreatment system

  • (6) Wet and powder paint booths

  • (2) paint line conveyor systems

  • (2) dry and bake ovens

  • Semi-automated silk-screening

  • Pad Printing
