In 1998, Metcam added laser cutting capabilities to its arsenal of fabrication equipment.  This first system has a 3,000 watt laser, integrated into a material handling system. The material handling system includes a six shelf material storage tower and automated load/unload. The system is capable of handling two lasers without modification.

The second laser is a 4,000 watt laser, which integrates into the material handling system purchased in 1998.  Metcam is only the second company in the US to install a multi-laser Bystronic FMS.

Metcam purchased the system from Bystronic, Inc., headquartered in Switzerland. Bystronic is a multi-national, hi-tech manufacturing corporation, recognized as a world leader in laser technology. The new equipment enables Metcam to:
Process sheet metal with minimum debur
Process a wider range of steel and stainless steel,
Offer quicker turn on prototype parts,
Expand our capacity for punch/pierce services, and
Improve material utilization through advanced nesting.
